Malta’s Art Scene Illuminated: TAPE: Sade (ARTE)
Malta’s Art Scene Lights Up with TAPE: Sade (ARTE)
In the heart of Valletta, at the historic Spazju Kreattiv, a unique art installation is captivating locals and tourists alike. TAPE: Sade (ARTE), a mesmerizing light show, has transformed the city’s cultural scene, drawing crowds to the capital’s Republic Street every evening. But what makes this installation a must-see?
Unraveling the Magic of TAPE: Sade (ARTE)
TAPE: Sade (ARTE) is the brainchild of French artist collective, Tryptique. Using 3D mapping and cutting-edge LED technology, they’ve breathed life into the façade of Spazju Kreattiv, Malta’s national centre for creativity. The result? A dazzling display of light and sound that tells the story of Sade, the legendary Nigerian singer-songwriter.
The 15-minute show is a sensory feast, with vivid animations and Sade’s soulful melodies creating an immersive experience. From the iconic ‘Smooth Operator’ to the haunting ‘No Ordinary Love’, each song brings a new visual narrative to life on the building’s grand facade.
Malta’s Role in the Global Art Scene
TAPE: Sade (ARTE) is just one example of Malta’s growing presence on the global art scene. The island nation, known for its rich history and stunning architecture, is increasingly becoming a hub for contemporary art. From the annual Valletta Green Festival to the Malta Arts Festival, local events are putting Malta on the map.
Malta’s strategic location and EU membership make it an ideal platform for international artists to showcase their work. Tryptique, for instance, chose Malta for their first 3D mapping project in the Mediterranean. “We were drawn to Malta’s unique cultural heritage and its commitment to contemporary art,” says Tryptique’s lead artist, Julien Baron.
