Figolli for a Cause: Sweet Treats with a Heart

Figolli: More Than Just Easter Treats

Every Easter, Malta’s streets transform into a symphony of colour and sweet aroma. Among the pastizzi and qubbajt, one traditional treat stands out: figolli. But these aren’t just any figolli. They’re the ones baked with love and purpose by the volunteers at Dar tal-Providenza.

Figolli with a Heart

Nestled in Siġġiewi, Dar tal-Providenza is a residential home for people with disabilities. Every Easter, they roll up their sleeves and get baking. Not just for themselves, but for a good cause. Their figolli, shaped like lambs, eggs, and other Easter symbols, are more than just sweet treats. They’re a symbol of hope and community.

Sr. Monica, the home’s director, explains, “It’s not just about baking figolli. It’s about involving our residents, giving them a sense of purpose, and teaching them new skills. And of course, raising funds to support our home and its residents.”

Figolli for a Cause

Dar tal-Providenza’s figolli aren’t your average Easter sweets. They’re a labour of love, baked with care and sold to support the home’s residents. The funds raised go towards improving the home’s facilities, providing better care, and organizing activities for the residents.

Last year, they managed to raise over €10,000 from their figolli sales alone. This year, they’re aiming even higher. “Every figoll we sell is a step towards making our residents’ lives better,” says Sr. Monica.

So, this Easter, when you’re indulging in figolli, remember, you’re not just satisfying your sweet tooth. You’re supporting a good cause. You’re supporting Dar tal-Providenza and its residents. And you’re becoming a part of their story.
