Malta’s Volunteers Get Free Health & Safety Training
Volunteers Roll Up Sleeves for Free Health & Safety Training
Picture this: a bustling hall in the heart of Malta’s Msida, filled with volunteers eager to learn. They’re not here for a lecture, but a hands-on, free health and safety training session. Why? Because thousands of volunteers across Malta are stepping up their game, and the government is rolling out the red carpet for them.
A Boost for Volunteers
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) has partnered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to provide free training to volunteers. The aim? To empower volunteers with the skills they need to keep themselves and those they serve safe.
Malta’s volunteer sector is thriving. From environmental conservation to community support, volunteers are the backbone of many local initiatives. But with great responsibility comes great need for safety awareness. This training is set to fill that gap.
What’s on the Menu?
The training covers a wide range of topics, from first aid and fire safety to manual handling and risk assessment. It’s not just about ticking boxes, though. It’s about giving volunteers the confidence to act when it matters most.
Take Manuel, a regular volunteer at the Malta Community Chest Fund. He’s been helping out at their soup kitchens for years. Now, thanks to this training, he knows exactly what to do if someone chokes on a piece of bread. That’s peace of mind, Malta-style.
A Win-Win
For the MCVS, this initiative is a no-brainer. “Volunteers are our lifeblood,” says their CEO, Joseph Farrugia. “The more skilled they are, the more they can do. And that’s a win for everyone.”
For the HSE, it’s a chance to reach out to a sector they don’t usually interact with. “Volunteers are often the first responders in a crisis,” says their Chief Inspector, Victor Axiak. “We want to make sure they’re ready.”
Get Involved
So, if you’re a volunteer, sign up for the training. It’s free, it’s practical, and it could make all the difference. And if you’re not a volunteer yet, what are you waiting for? There’s a whole world of training and opportunity out there.
As Manuel puts it, “It’s not just about learning. It’s about making a difference. And now, I can do that even better.”
