Pierre Galea: New Acting General Secretary of Malta Development Association
Pierre Galea: A New Voice at the Helm of Malta’s Business Advocates
In the heart of Malta’s bustling capital, Valletta, the Malta Development Association (MDA) has a new acting general secretary. Pierre Galea, a seasoned professional with a decade of experience in the public and private sectors, has taken the reins, stepping into the role following the departure of former secretary, Joseph Farrugia.
From Public Service to Private Sector
Galea’s journey to the MDA is a testament to his versatility and adaptability. He began his career in the public service, serving as a policy officer at the Ministry of Finance. Here, he honed his skills in policy formulation and implementation, gaining a deep understanding of Malta’s economic scene.
In 2016, Galea made the transition to the private sector, joining the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry. As the chamber’s policy and research officer, he was instrumental in advocating for businesses, a role that has prepared him well for his new position at the MDA.
Stepping into the Spotlight
The MDA, established in 1964, is one of Malta’s oldest and most influential business associations. It represents the interests of over 700 companies, making it a powerful voice in Malta’s economic dialogue. Galea’s appointment comes at a critical juncture, as the island nation navigates the complexities of post-pandemic recovery and Brexit.
“I’m excited about this opportunity,” Galea told Hot Malta. “The MDA has a rich history, and I’m eager to build on the work of my predecessors. I look forward to working with our members to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
: Galea’s Agenda
Galea has a clear vision for his tenure. He plans to focus on three key areas: advocacy, education, and networking.
Advocacy: Galea intends to amplify the MDA’s voice in national policy debates. He aims to ensure that the association’s members, representing a broad spectrum of industries, are heard and considered in government decision-making processes.
Education: Galea believes in the power of knowledge. He plans to organize workshops and seminars to keep MDA members informed about regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices. He also wants to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly among young Maltese.
Networking: Galea recognizes the value of connections. He plans to strengthen the MDA’s network, both locally and internationally, to create opportunities for collaboration and growth. He also wants to foster closer ties between the MDA and other business associations, both in Malta and abroad.
Galea’s appointment signals a new chapter in the MDA’s history. As he takes the helm, Malta’s business community watches with anticipation, eager to see what the future holds under his leadership.
“Pierre Galea brings a unique blend of experience and passion to the MDA,” said Chris Cardona, MDA president. “We’re confident that he will lead our association with vision and determination, always keeping the best interests of our members at heart.”
As Malta continues to evolve, so too will its business scene. With Pierre Galea at the helm, the MDA is well-positioned to navigate these changes, advocating for its members and driving Malta’s economic growth.
