Malta: Search for Missing Student Enters Fourth Week

Three Weeks On: The Search for Missing Student Continues

The sun sets over the Grand Harbour, casting a long shadow over the silent streets of Valletta. Among the usual evening chatter, one topic weighs heavy on the minds of locals – the disappearance of 19-year-old student, Matthew Xuereb, three weeks ago.

Last Seen in Msida

Matthew was last seen on the evening of March 15th, near the Msida Marina. His family reported him missing the following day, sparking a widespread search operation involving the Malta Police Force, volunteers, and even drones. Yet, despite the extensive efforts, there’s been no sign of the young man.

His mother, Maria Xuereb, told Hot Malta, “We’re living in a nightmare. Every day that passes without news is another day of uncertainty and worry. We just want our Matthew back.”

Community United in Concern

The Msida community has rallied around the Xuereb family, organizing search parties and vigils. Local businesses have displayed posters of Matthew, and social media platforms are flooded with appeals for information.

Father John Azzopardi, from the nearby St. Francis Church, said, “We’re praying for Matthew’s safe return. Our community is strong, and we stand united with the Xuereb family during this difficult time.”

Police Appeal for Information

The Malta Police Force has issued several appeals for information, urging anyone who might have seen Matthew or knows of his whereabouts to come forward. They have also released CCTV footage of a man resembling Matthew, captured near the Msida Marina on the night of his disappearance.

Superintendent Angela Spiteri, leading the investigation, said, “We’re following every lead, no matter how small. We urge anyone with information to contact us. It could be the key to finding Matthew.”

If you have any information regarding Matthew Xuereb’s whereabouts, please contact the Malta Police Force on 119 or the Xuereb family on +356 9944 1234.

As the search for Matthew enters its fourth week, the community remains hopeful. The Grand Harbour may be silent, but the spirit of Malta’s people is not. Until Matthew is found, the search continues.
