Rabat Residents Rejoice: Missing Man Found Safe
Relief in Rabat: Missing Man Found After Week-Long Search
In the heart of Malta’s historic Rabat, a sense of relief washed over the tight-knit community as news spread like wildfire yesterday evening. The man who had been missing for a week, 65-year-old Joseph ‘ Żu’ Camilleri, was found safe and sound.
Week-Long Search in Rural Malta
Camilleri, a well-known figure in Rabat, was last seen on the outskirts of the village, near the ancient Roman Villa Romana. His disappearance sparked a week-long search involving the police, volunteers, and even local hunters. The rural terrain of Malta, with its valleys and fields, posed challenges but did not deter the determined search parties.
Every morning, the community would gather at the small square near the Parish Church, armed with coffee and hope, ready to scour the countryside. The search was a test of resilience, with each day bringing new worries but also renewed determination.
Breakthrough in Ta’ Qali
Yesterday’s breakthrough came when a group of volunteers, led by local hunter and Rabat resident, Mario Debono, found Camilleri near the Ta’ Qali National Park. Debono recounted, “We heard a faint call for help. When we found him, he was weak but conscious. He had fallen into a disused well and was unable to climb out.”
Camilleri was promptly taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was treated for dehydration and minor injuries. His daughter, Maria, expressed her gratitude to the community, “We’re so thankful for everyone’s help. It’s been a tough week, but the support has been overwhelming.”
Community United
Rabat’s Mayor, Paul Rapa, praised the community’s response, “The way our community came together, it’s what makes Rabat so special. We’re a small village, but when it comes to helping each other, we’re a force to be reckoned with.”
As Camilleri recovers, the community breathes a collective sigh of relief. The search may be over, but the spirit of unity and resilience remains, a testament to the strength of Malta’s small towns.
