AI Artists: The New Sound of Country Music

AI-Generated Artists: The New Wave in Country Music

In the heart of Nashville, the birthplace of country music, a new kind of artist is taking the stage. They don’t strum guitars or sing into microphones, but they’re creating music that’s resonating with fans worldwide. They’re AI-generated artists, and their impact is echoing all the way to Malta’s own music scene.

AI in the Spotlight

Meet “Endel,” a virtual artist created by AIVA (Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist), a French startup. Endel’s first single, “Friday Night,” released in 2021, topped the charts in 32 countries, including Malta. The song, a blend of country and electronic music, was created using AI algorithms that learned from thousands of country music tracks.

Endel isn’t alone. There’s “Yaeji,” an AI-generated K-pop artist created by South Korean company, SM Entertainment. Closer to home, Maltese startup, “AI Music Malta,” is experimenting with AI-generated music, including country-inspired tracks.

AI in Malta’s Music Scene

Malta’s music scene is buzzing with curiosity about AI-generated artists. Local DJs and producers are starting to experiment with AI tools. “I’ve been playing around with AI music generation software,” says Malta-based DJ, Mark Zammit. “It’s fascinating how AI can create something that feels so human.”

Malta’s music schools are also taking notice. “We’re planning to introduce AI music generation as an elective next semester,” says Dr. Joseph Zammit, head of the music department at the University of Malta. “It’s a new skill set our students need to explore.”

AI-Generated Artists: The Future?

AI-generated artists are here to stay, but they won’t replace human artists anytime soon. “AI can create amazing music, but it lacks the emotion and personal experience that human artists bring,” says Zammit. “It’s a new tool for us to use, not a replacement.”

As AI-generated artists continue to make waves, Malta’s music scene is set to embrace this new technology. From local DJs experimenting with AI tools to music schools incorporating AI into their curriculum, Malta is ready to join the global conversation about AI in music.

So, the next time you’re at a gig in Paceville or listening to local music on Bay Radio, remember, the artist might not be human. But that’s okay. After all, music is music, no matter who – or what – creates it.
