Ex-Hili Exec Sues for €500,000

Hili Empire Rocked: Former Executive Sues for €500,000

In the heart of Malta’s bustling business district, the Hili Empire’s towering headquarters stands as a testament to the conglomerate’s power and influence. But today, a storm is brewing within those glass walls. A former executive has launched a €500,000 lawsuit against the Hili companies, alleging unfair dismissal and breach of contract.

From Power Player to Plaintiff

Meet Joseph Xuereb, a name that once echoed through the halls of power at the Hili Group. As the former Chief Financial Officer, Xuereb was instrumental in steering the conglomerate through years of growth and expansion. But in late 2021, his story took a dramatic turn. He was suddenly sacked, leaving him not just jobless, but also, he claims, cheated out of substantial compensation.

“I was given no reason for my dismissal,” Xuereb told Hot Malta. “One day, I was a key player in the Hili empire, the next, I was out in the cold.”

€500,000 Claim: What’s at Stake?

Xuereb’s lawsuit, filed at the First Hall of the Civil Court, alleges that he is owed €500,000 in unpaid salary, bonuses, and other benefits. His contract, he claims, guaranteed him these payments even in the event of dismissal. The Hili Group, however, maintains that Xuereb’s dismissal was lawful and that no compensation is due.

“We strongly deny these allegations,” a spokesperson for the Hili Group told Hot Malta. “We will vigorously defend ourselves against this lawsuit.”

Power Play or Legal Precedent?

The Xuereb vs. Hili case is more than just a legal spat between a former executive and his former employer. It raises questions about the power dynamics within Malta’s corporate scene and the legal protections afforded to high-ranking employees.

Legal experts are watching the case closely. “This could set a significant precedent,” says Dr. Joseph Borg, a leading employment lawyer. “It could clarify the rights of high-ranking executives and the obligations of companies towards them.”

Meanwhile, Xuereb remains philosophical about his sudden fall from grace. “I’m not seeking revenge,” he says. “I just want what’s rightfully mine. I want to clear my name and move on.”
