Former Exec Sues Hili Companies for €500,000

Hili Companies Facing €500,000 Lawsuit from Former Executive

Imagine this: you’re walking down Republic Street in Valletta, the sun is shining, and you’re enjoying a coffee from one of the bustling cafes. Suddenly, you spot a familiar face – it’s none other than Joseph F. Cuschieri, the man who’s making headlines today. But he’s not just another passerby; he’s the former executive suing Hili Companies for a whopping €500,000.

From Boardroom to Courtroom

Cuschieri, a seasoned businessman, was once a key figure in Hili Companies, a Malta-based conglomerate with interests in construction, property development, and more. But things took a turn for the worse, leading to his sacking in 2020. Now, he’s fighting back, alleging wrongful dismissal and seeking substantial compensation.

Cuschieri’s lawyer, Paul Borg of Borg Galea Advocates, told Hot Malta, “My client has a strong case. He was dismissed without cause, and we believe the court will agree.” The lawsuit, filed at the First Hall of the Civil Court, claims that Cuschieri was dismissed in breach of his employment contract.

Hili Companies: A Powerhouse Under Fire

Hili Companies, led by the enigmatic Yorgen Fenech, has been a dominant force in Malta’s business scene. The company’s portfolio includes high-profile projects like the db Group’s luxury hotels and the controversial Tigne’ Point development in Sliema.

However, the company is no stranger to controversy. Fenech, its CEO, has been at the center of political storms, including the Egrant inquiry, which investigated allegations that Fenech owned the mysterious company at the heart of the Panama Papers scandal.

When asked to comment on the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Hili Companies said, “We cannot comment on ongoing legal proceedings. We are confident that our position will be vindicated in court.”

What’s Next?

The lawsuit promises to be a high-stakes legal drama, pitting a powerful corporate entity against a former executive with a lot to lose. As the case unfolds, it could shed light on the inner workings of one of Malta’s most influential companies.

For now, Cuschieri remains tight-lipped about the details of his case. But one thing is clear – he’s ready to fight. “I’ve worked hard for my reputation,” he told Hot Malta. “I won’t let it be tarnished without a fight.”
