UĦM Director Resigns After Two Decades
UĦM’s New Chapter: Long-Serving Director Steps Down
In the heart of Malta, at the University of the Mediterranean (UĦM) in Msida, a significant change is underway. After two decades at the helm, Director Prof. Joseph Cassar has announced his resignation, leaving the institution to navigate a new chapter.
A Decade of Stewardship
Prof. Cassar’s departure marks the end of an era. Joining UĦM in 2002, he rose through the ranks, becoming Director in 2010. Under his leadership, the university grew from strength to strength, expanding its programmes and student body.
“Prof. Cassar’s tenure has been marked by innovation and growth,” said Dr. Maria Azzopardi, UĦM’s Vice-Director. “He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shape our institution.”
: A New Director
With Prof. Cassar’s departure, UĦM’s Board of Governors has begun the search for a new Director. The process is expected to be rigorous, with candidates from both local and international academic circles invited to apply.
Dr. Azzopardi, who will be acting Director until a permanent replacement is found, assured the university community, “We are committed to finding a successor who can build on Prof. Cassar’s achievements and lead UĦM into its next phase of growth.”
Located in the bustling Msida area, UĦM’s future leader will inherit a vibrant institution, deeply rooted in Maltese culture yet globally focused. The new Director will face challenges and opportunities, from managing growth to maintaining academic excellence.
As Prof. Cassar prepares to step down, he reflected on his time at UĦM, “It’s been an honour to serve this institution. I leave knowing that UĦM is in good hands, ready to embrace the future.”
