Radio Malta’s Flag Hunt: Show Off Your Banderola
Waving the Banderola: Radio Malta’s Flag Hunt
Picture this: you’re strolling down Republic Street, the sun is out, and suddenly you spot a bright Maltese flag fluttering from a balcony. You might not think much of it, but Radio Malta sure does. They’re on a mission to find the most creative and unique flag displays across the islands, and they need your help.
Why the Flag Frenzy?
Radio Malta, or Radju Malta as we locals know it, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, they’ve launched a nationwide campaign called ‘Il-Fenek Tiegħi’ (My Flag). The idea is simple: encourage Maltese and Gozitan residents to fly the flag with pride and creativity.
“We want to see how people are displaying the flag, whether it’s at home, in their business, or even on their boat,” explains Mark Anthony Psaila, Radio Malta’s Programme Coordinator. “It’s a fun way to celebrate our national identity and engage with our listeners.”
From Balconies to Boats
So, what are they looking for? Well, anything goes. From traditional displays to quirky and innovative ones. We’ve seen flags painted on walls, hanging from windows, even attached to drones. The more creative, the better.
Take for instance, the family in Msida who turned their balcony into a mini Malta-themed garden, complete with a flag pole and a little Maltese cross at the base. Or the café in Valletta that hangs a flag from their awning, giving passersby a little patriotic boost with their morning coffee.
How to Participate
Taking part is easy. Just snap a photo of your flag display and share it on social media using the hashtag #IlFenekTiegħi. You can also send your photos directly to Radio Malta via their website or mobile app.
Each week, Radio Malta will feature the best entries on air and online. At the end of the campaign, they’ll pick an overall winner who will receive a special prize. But remember, it’s not just about winning. It’s about showing your love for Malta and having fun while doing it.
So, go on. Dust off that flag, give it a wash, and show it off. Let’s make Malta a sea of red and white this summer. And who knows, you might just hear your name on the radio.
