Gozo Fast Ferry Eases Travel Rules

Gozo Fast Ferry: New Ticket Rules Ease Travel Woes

Imagine this: You’re a Maltese resident, eager to escape the mainland’s hustle and bustle for a peaceful weekend in Gozo. You’ve planned your trip, packed your bags, but there’s one thing left to do – book your ferry ticket. Until recently, this simple task could turn into a logistical nightmare. Not anymore, thanks to Gozo Fast Ferry’s recent rule changes.

Farewell to Unused Tickets

Gone are the days when pre-booked tickets were non-refundable and non-transferable. The new rules, effective since last month, now allow passengers to cancel their tickets up to 24 hours before departure, with a full refund. This change has been welcomed with open arms by locals, who often plan their trips at the last minute or face unexpected changes in their schedules.

Take, for instance, Malta-based marketing professional, Maria Grech. “I’ve missed countless ferries because of work commitments,” she says. “Now, I can book my ticket in advance without worrying about losing money if something comes up.”

Flexibility is the New Norm

The ferry operator has also introduced a new ‘Flexi Ticket’ option. This allows passengers to book their ticket in advance and change their travel date up to two hours before departure, free of charge. This new flexibility is a breakthrough for those who want the peace of mind of a pre-booked ticket but the freedom to change their plans.

Consider the case of Gozitan resident, Joseph Camilleri. “I often travel to Malta for work, but my meetings can sometimes run late,” he explains. “With the Flexi Ticket, I can book my return journey with confidence, knowing I can change my plans if needed.”

More Changes Afoot

Gozo Fast Ferry isn’t stopping at ticket rules. They’ve also announced plans to increase their fleet, promising more frequent sailings between Ċirkewwa and Mġarr. This move is set to ease the notorious summer congestion at the Ċirkewwa terminal, a common source of frustration for locals and tourists alike.

the company is exploring the possibility of introducing a loyalty program, rewarding frequent travellers with discounts and perks. Details are still scarce, but the promise of such a program has already sparked excitement among regular commuters.

These changes come as part of Gozo Fast Ferry’s commitment to improving passenger experience. “We understand that our customers have busy lives and changing plans,” says a spokesperson for the company. “Our new rules aim to make their travel experience as stress-free as possible.”

So, whether you’re a Gozitan resident eager to explore the vibrant streets of Valletta or a Maltese resident craving the tranquillity of Gozo’s rural landscapes, these changes promise a smoother, more flexible ferry experience.

As for Maria and Joseph, they’re both looking forward to their next trip. “I can’t wait to try out the new rules,” says Maria. “It’s about time ferry travel caught up with the rest of our busy lives.”
