Man’s Chilling Tale: Lured, Beaten, Mugged in Paceville
Imagine this: it’s a seemingly ordinary night in Paceville, the heart of Malta’s nightlife. You’re walking home, minding your own business, when a woman approaches you, pleading for help. You stop, ready to assist. But this isn’t the help she needs. Instead, you’re lured into a trap, beaten, and robbed. This is the chilling tale of what happened to a local man last weekend.
Lured into a Trap
The victim, a 32-year-old Maltese man who wishes to remain anonymous, was walking home from a friend’s place in St. Julian’s around 2 AM on Saturday. Suddenly, a woman called out to him from a nearby alley. She was distressed, claiming she had lost her phone and needed help. Being a Good Samaritan, he approached her. Big mistake.
“She was crying, saying she needed to call her friend to pick her up. I offered to help her find her phone using mine,” he recounts. But instead of helping, she grabbed his phone and ran, with two men emerging from the shadows, chasing him down.
Beaten and Mugged
The men, both described as tall and muscular, caught up to him quickly. They punched him repeatedly, knocking him to the ground. “I tried to fight back, but they were too strong,” he says, his voice still shaking at the memory. They took his wallet, phone, and even his watch before fleeing, leaving him bruised and bleeding in the alley.
He managed to stumble to a nearby bar, where the staff called an ambulance. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released a few hours later.
Police Investigation Ongoing
The incident has been reported to the police, who are currently investigating. They urge anyone with information to come forward. “We need witnesses, CCTV footage, anything that can help us catch these criminals,” a police spokesperson said.
This isn’t the first time Paceville has seen such incidents. The area, while popular for its nightlife, has its dark side. “We need better lighting, more CCTV, and more police presence,” says the victim. “I’ve always felt safe in Paceville, but not anymore.”
In the meantime, the victim is left to pick up the pieces. His phone and wallet are gone, but the real loss is his sense of security. “I used to walk home from Paceville all the time. Now, I’m scared. I don’t feel safe anymore.”
Let’s hope the police can bring these criminals to justice and restore some peace of mind to Paceville’s night owls.
