Man’s Chilling Tale: Lured, Beaten, Mugged in Paceville
Imagine this: It’s a seemingly quiet night in Paceville, the heart of Malta’s nightlife, and a man, let’s call him Joe, is walking home from a late shift. Suddenly, a woman’s desperate cries for help pierce the night. Joe, a Good Samaritan, stops to assist. But this isn’t your typical damsel in distress. It’s a trap, and Joe is about to become the victim of a brutal mugging.
Lured into the Lion’s Den
Joe recounts, “I was walking home from my shift at The Point Shopping Mall around 11 pm. I heard a woman shouting ‘Help me!’ from an alley. I rushed in to see what was wrong.” The alley in question is a narrow, dimly lit passage between St. George’s Road and Triq il-Kbira, a stone’s throw from the bustling Paceville Square.
As Joe approached, the woman, seemingly distressed, asked him to help her find her phone. “She said she’d dropped it and couldn’t find it in the dark,” Joe remembers. Trusting, Joe agreed to help. But as they searched, two men emerged from the shadows. The woman’s demeanor changed instantly. She grabbed Joe’s arm, and the men pounced.
A Beating and a Theft
The men, armed with what felt like a crowbar and a knife, began to beat Joe. “I tried to fight back, but they were too strong,” he says, his voice barely above a whisper. The woman held him down while the men took turns striking him. When they finally stopped, they relieved him of his wallet, phone, and watch.
The attackers then vanished into the night, leaving Joe bruised, bloodied, and alone in the alley. He managed to stumble out and flag down a passing taxi, which took him to Mater Dei Hospital. “I was lucky,” Joe says, “They could’ve done much worse.”
Paceville’s Dark Side
While Paceville is known for its vibrant nightlife, it also has a dark side. Incidents like these, though rare, do occur. The Malta Police Force urges anyone who finds themselves in such a situation to prioritize safety. “Don’t intervene if it puts you at risk,” a spokesperson advises. “Your safety is paramount. If you suspect a crime, call us immediately.”
Since the attack, Joe has been recovering at home. He’s also been helping police with their investigation. “I want these people caught,” he says, determination in his eyes. “No one should have to go through what I did.”
As for the woman who lured him in, Joe has a message: “I hope you’re caught too. You’re just as guilty as the men who attacked me.”
