Man Arrested for Alleged Harassment of Ex-Partner
Local Man Arrested After Allegedly Harassing Ex-Partner for Months
In a turn of events that has through the quiet streets of Msida, a local man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of harassing his ex-partner for several months. The arrest, which took place outside the couple’s former residence on Triq San Pawl, comes as a relief to neighbours who have witnessed the alleged harassment firsthand.
Months of Alleged Harassment
The victim, a 35-year-old woman, had reportedly been enduring persistent calls, messages, and unwanted visits from her former partner since their separation in January. Despite changing her number and informing him of a restraining order, the alleged harassment continued, culminating in a heated argument outside their former home yesterday.
“It’s been a nightmare,” the victim told Hot Malta. “I’ve felt trapped in my own home, constantly looking over my shoulder. I’m grateful to the police for finally putting an end to this.”
Police Action and Support Services
Inspector Joe Borg of the Malta Police Force confirmed the arrest, stating, “We take incidents of harassment seriously. We urge anyone experiencing similar situations to come forward. We have specialist officers trained to handle such cases sensitively and effectively.”
Support services, such as the Women’s Rights Foundation and Dar tal-Providenza, have also expressed their support. “We’re here to help,” said a spokesperson from the Women’s Rights Foundation. “If you’re being harassed, please reach out. You’re not alone.”
In the wake of this incident, local councillors have called for increased awareness and stricter penalties for harassment offences. “We need to send a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated,” said Councillor Maria Grech.
As the investigation continues, the accused, a 40-year-old man, has been remanded in custody pending further inquiries. The victim has been offered support services and is expected to make a full statement in due course.
