Missing Teen: €1,000 Reward Offered in Birkirkara Search

In the quiet, tree-lined streets of Birkirkara, a sense of unease has settled. The usually bustling town, known for its vibrant markets and historic churches, is now home to a mystery that has left residents on edge. Eighteen-year-old student, Matthew Camilleri, has been missing for over a week, and his family, friends, and the local community are desperate for answers.

Matthew’s Disappearance

Matthew, a bright and popular student at the University of Malta, was last seen on the evening of Monday, 13th February. He had left his family home in Birkirkara, stating he was meeting friends in Msida. However, he never arrived at his destination, and his worried family reported him missing the following day.

CCTV footage shows Matthew walking alone along Triq San Pawl in Msida around 8:30 PM. He was dressed in a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white trainers. This is the last confirmed sighting of the teenager.

Community Rallies Behind the Search

In the days following Matthew’s disappearance, Birkirkara and the wider Maltese community have rallied behind the Camilleri family. Social media has been flooded with appeals for information, and posters bearing Matthew’s photo have been plastered across the island.

Local businesses have also shown their support. The Old Bakery, a popular Birkirkara café, has offered a €1,000 reward for any information leading to Matthew’s safe return. Owner, Joseph Borg, told Hot Malta, “Matthew is one of our own. We’ll do anything we can to help bring him home.”

Inspector Mario Azzopardi, leading the search for Matthew, has praised the community’s response. “The support we’ve received has been incredible. It’s helping us cover more ground and reach more people.”
