Missing Teen: €1,000 Reward Offered in Birkirkara Case

In the quiet residential street of Triq San Pawl in Birkirkara, a sense of unease has settled. The usually bustling street is home to many families, but one family is missing their most precious member – their 16-year-old son, who hasn’t been seen since last Tuesday.

Teen’s Disappearance Puzzles Authorities

Matthew Azzopardi, a student at St. Aloysius College, left his home on the evening of Tuesday, 14th March, telling his family he was going out to meet friends. That was the last time they saw him. His phone was found switched off the next day, and he hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Inspector Joseph Mercieca, leading the investigation, described the case as “puzzling”. “Matthew is not the type of teenager to just disappear without a trace. He’s a good student, involved in sports, and has a close-knit family. We’re treating this as a high-priority case and are following every lead,” he said.

Community Rallies Around the Azzopardi Family

News of Matthew’s disappearance has shaken the close-knit community of Birkirkara. Neighbors have been rallying around the Azzopardi family, offering support and helping in the search efforts. Posters of Matthew have been plastered across the town, and his face has been shared widely on social media.

“We’re all worried sick about Matthew,” said Maria, a neighbor who has known the Azzopardi family for years. “We’re doing everything we can to help find him. It’s not like him to just vanish like this.”

€1,000 Reward Offered for Information

In a bid to encourage anyone with information about Matthew’s whereabouts to come forward, a €1,000 reward has been offered. The reward is being offered by a local businessman who wishes to remain anonymous.

“I hope this reward encourages anyone who might know something to come forward,” he said. “Matthew’s family deserves to know what happened to their son. I can’t imagine the pain they’re going through.”

Inspector Mercieca echoed this sentiment, appealing to the public: “If you know anything, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, please come forward. It could be the key to finding Matthew.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Birkirkara Police Station on 2124 2000 or the anonymous crime reporting line on 119.
