Malta’s streets, particularly the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, are not the same without the familiar face of 16-year-old Matthew Zammit. The teenager, a student at St. Aloysius College, has been missing since last Tuesday, leaving his family and friends desperate for any information that could lead to his safe return.
Missing Teen: Matthew Zammit’s Disappearance
Matthew Zammit, a lively and active student, was last seen in the early hours of Tuesday, 14th March, near his home in Msida. His family reported him missing the following day, setting off a search that has since involved the police, local volunteers, and the community.
Matthew is described as being of medium build, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white trainers. Despite extensive searches and appeals, there has been no sign of him, leaving his loved ones anxious and desperate for any news.
€1,000 Reward Offered for Information
In an effort to encourage anyone with information about Matthew’s whereabouts to come forward, his family has offered a €1,000 reward. The family, through their spokesperson, has pleaded, “Please, if you know anything, no matter how small, please come forward. We just want Matthew back home safe.”
The police, too, have urged anyone with information to contact them immediately. Superintendent Joseph Mercieca, leading the investigation, stated, “We are following every lead and appealing to the public for their help. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove vital in locating Matthew.”
Community Rallies for Missing Teen
The Maltese community has rallied around the Zammit family, with many taking to social media to share Matthew’s photo and details, and others joining search parties. The hashtag #FindMatthewZammit has been trending on local social media platforms, with people expressing their hope for his safe return.
Local businesses have also shown their support. A spokesperson for a popular Msida café, Il-Bistrot, shared, “We’ve put up posters and shared his details on our social media pages. We’re hoping that someone out there has seen something that could help bring Matthew home.”
In the heart of Msida, the local parish church has held special prayers for Matthew’s safe return. Father Mark Sultana, the parish priest, shared, “The community is deeply concerned. We’re all hoping for a positive outcome and are keeping Matthew and his family in our prayers.”
