Malta’s MJ Fans Take Hollywood by Storm
Malta’s MJ Fans: A Sea of Gloved Hands in Hollywood
Imagine, if you will, a sea of gloved hands waving in the air, a forest of sequined jackets, and a chorus of “Hee-hee!”s echoing through the streets of Hollywood. This wasn’t a scene from a Michael Jackson biopic, but the real-life spectacle that unfolded last week as fans from all corners of the globe, including a contingent from Malta, gathered for the premiere of ‘Michael Jackson: The Last Photo Shoot’.
Malta’s Jackson Love Affair
Malta’s love affair with the King of Pop is no secret. From the iconic ‘Thriller’ dance routines at local clubs to the annual Michael Jackson birthday celebrations at the Hard Rock CafĂ© Malta, the island has always been home to a thriving community of MJ enthusiasts. So, when the opportunity arose to join fellow fans in Hollywood for the biopic premiere, a group of passionate Maltese fans couldn’t resist.
From Valletta to Hollywood
Led by local event organizer and die-hard fan, Joe Camilleri, the Maltese delegation consisted of around 20 fans who had saved, planned, and dreamt of this moment for months. Their journey began in the heart of Valletta, where they gathered at the City Gate, donning their best Jackson-inspired outfits, before boarding their flight to Los Angeles.
Upon arrival in Hollywood, the group wasted no time in immersing themselves in the electric atmosphere. They joined thousands of other fans, many of whom had camped out for days, in a city-wide celebration that was as much about the man as it was about the movie.
Premiere Night: A Night to Remember
The night of the premiere was a spectacle unlike any other. The Maltese fans, along with the rest of the Jackson army, lined the red carpet, screaming, cheering, and singing along to the King of Pop’s greatest hits blaring from nearby speakers. The air was thick with anticipation and the unmistakable scent of popcorn and hair gel.
As the stars began to arrive, the crowd went wild. From Jackson’s family members to celebrities paying their respects, each entrance was met with a roar of approval. The Maltese contingent, however, saved their loudest cheers for the moment when Jackson’s daughter, Paris, walked the carpet. “We love you, Paris!” they screamed, their voices hoarse from hours of cheering.
Finally, the moment they had all been waiting for arrived. The premiere began, and the crowd was transported back to the final days of Jackson’s life, captured in a series of intimate photographs taken by renowned photographer, Harrison Funk. The film was a poignant reminder of the man behind the music, and the Maltese fans were moved to tears.
Malta’s MJ Fans:
Back in Malta, the fans are already planning their next adventure. With rumours of a Jackson-themed musical in the works and the 40th anniversary of the ‘Thriller’ album on the horizon, there’s plenty to look forward to. As Joe Camilleri puts it, “Michael Jackson’s music and legacy will live on, and we’ll be there, front and centre, celebrating every moment.”
And so, the story of Malta’s Michael Jackson fans continues. From the streets of Valletta to the red carpets of Hollywood, their love for the King of Pop knows no bounds. As they look ahead to the next chapter, one thing is certain: the Maltese MJ army will be ready, their gloved hands raised high, ready to dance, sing, and celebrate the man who brought the world to its feet.
