Malta’s Solar Revolution: Delimara Peninsula to Host 100MW Farm

On April 22, 2026, the Maltese government announced plans to transform the Delimara peninsula into the country’s largest solar farm.

The project, a joint venture between Enemalta and a consortium of international investors, is set to generate 100MW of clean energy, enough to power around 25,000 homes. This isn’t just about reducing our carbon footprint; it’s about energy independence. Malta imports all its energy, and this project is a significant step towards changing that.

“Today marks a turning point in Malta’s energy history,” said Minister for Energy and Water Management, Michael Farrugia. “We’re not just talking about renewable energy; we’re demonstrating our commitment to it.”

The Delimara solar farm isn’t just about powering homes; it’s about powering the economy. The project is expected to create around 200 jobs during construction and 10 permanent positions once operational. it’s set to attract tech companies and innovators, keen to tap into Malta’s burgeoning green energy sector.

But the benefits don’t stop there. The government has plans to turn the solar farm into a tourist attraction. Visitors will be able to learn about renewable energy, enjoy guided tours, and even have a bite at the planned eco-café.

Construction is set to begin in late 2027, with the first panels expected to start generating power in early 2029. But before that, the government is inviting public feedback on the project. “We want this to be a project of the people, by the people,” said Minister Farrugia.
