Vocal Harmony Across the Atlantic: VOCA & US Chorus to Mesmerize Vittoriosa

Imagine this: the ancient streets of Vittoriosa echoing with the soulful harmonies of a Maltese choir, joined by their American counterparts. This isn’t a dream, but a reality set to unfold on Thursday evening. The VOCA choir, Malta’s premier vocal ensemble, is teaming up with the United States’ renowned Choral Arts Society for a concert that promises to be a musical bridge between two continents.

From Washington D.C. to Vittoriosa

The Choral Arts Society, based in the heart of Washington D.C., is no stranger to international collaborations. But this is their first time performing in Malta. “We’re thrilled to bring our music to Vittoriosa,” says Scott Tucker, the Society’s artistic director. “The historic setting, the Mediterranean air, it’s all going to add a unique flavor to our performance.”

The VOCA choir, under the direction of Brian Cefai, is equally excited. “We’ve performed in some amazing places, but there’s something special about singing in Vittoriosa,” says Cefai. “The acoustics, the atmosphere, it’s going to be magical.”

A Night of Musical Diplomacy

The concert, titled ‘Harmony Across the Atlantic’, will feature a mix of classical, contemporary, and folk music. From Mozart’s ‘ Ave Verum Corpus’ to Maltese composer Charles Camilleri’s ‘The Seasons’, the repertoire promises to cater to all tastes. The choirs will also perform a joint piece, ‘The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass’ by Carol Barnett, a testament to their collaborative spirit.

The concert will take place at the historic St. Lawrence Church in Vittoriosa. The church, with its stunning architecture and rich history, provides the perfect backdrop for this musical event. “We’re not just performing in Vittoriosa, we’re performing with Vittoriosa,” says Tucker. “The history, the culture, it’s all going to be part of our performance.”

For those interested, tickets are available online and at various outlets around Malta. The concert starts at 8 pm, but it’s recommended to arrive early to secure a good spot. After all, this is a night you won’t want to miss.

While this is the first time the Choral Arts Society is performing in Malta, it’s not the last. Both choirs are already discussing future collaborations. “This is just the beginning,” says Cefai. “We’re looking forward to many more performances together.”

So, mark your calendars, Malta. On Thursday, Vittoriosa will echo with the harmonious voices of two continents, singing in perfect harmony. It’s an event you won’t want to miss.
