Panic Call During Raid: Accused Alerts Mother

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a routine police raid in Malta’s bustling Msida area turned into a chaotic scene. The accused, a 32-year-old man, broke police orders and made a desperate call to his mother, shouting, “There was a blitz!”

The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Clean Sweep’, was aimed at dismantling a suspected drug trafficking ring operating in the Msida and Ta’ Xbiex areas. However, things quickly spiralled out of control when the accused, identified as Matthew A., refused to cooperate and alerted his mother to the police presence.

According to sources close to the investigation, the accused was supposed to be taken by surprise, but his quick thinking and panic call disrupted the carefully planned operation. “We had the element of surprise, but he blew it,” a police officer told Hot Malta on condition of anonymity.

Matthew’s mother, who lives in nearby Gżira, was understandably shocked by her son’s call. “I woke up to my son screaming that there was a raid. I was terrified,” she told Hot Malta, requesting anonymity. Police, on the other hand, were left frustrated by the turn of events. “We had to abort the operation to avoid a potentially dangerous situation,” a high-ranking police official confirmed.

The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of such operations and the element of surprise. It has also sparked a debate about the role of family members in such situations and whether they should be warned or kept in the dark for the sake of the operation.

Matthew A. has since been arrested and charged with drug trafficking and obstruction of justice. His mother, meanwhile, has been left shaken by the ordeal. “I just want this nightmare to be over,” she said.
