RISe Foundation: Malta’s Quiet Achiever
From Humble Beginnings to Centre Stage
In the heart of Msida, a stone’s throw from the bustling Triq San Pawl, lies the RISe Foundation. This unassuming building has been quietly transforming lives, one project at a time. But success, it seems, has finally come knocking at their door.
RISe’s Journey: A Tale of Patience and Perseverance
The RISe Foundation was born out of a desire to empower marginalized communities. Founded in 2010 by a group of passionate individuals, it started as a small NGO operating from a cramped office in Birkirkara. Their mission was clear: to provide educational and vocational opportunities to those most in need.
For years, RISe ploughed a lonely furrow. Funding was scarce, resources were stretched, and progress seemed painfully slow. Yet, they persisted, driven by a belief in their cause and the potential of those they served.
Turning Points: The Projects That Put RISe on the Map
Then came the turning points. The EU-funded ‘Empowering Youth’ project, which provided vocational training and job placements for young people, put RISe on the radar of local authorities. The ‘Women’s Empowerment through Education’ initiative, supported by the British Council, earned them international recognition.
But it was the ‘RISe Up’ programme, funded by the Malta Development Bank, that truly catapulted RISe into the spotlight. This ambitious project offered comprehensive support to long-term unemployed individuals, helping them overcome barriers to employment and reintegrate into the workforce.
Success Stories: The Faces Behind the Figures
Meet Maria, a single mother from Zebbug who, after years of unemployment, found her footing through RISe’s ‘RISe Up’ programme. Today, she’s a confident, employed woman, her eyes sparkling with dreams for her daughter’s future.
Or take Joseph, a young man from Msida who, battling mental health issues, found solace and purpose in RISe’s vocational training programmes. Now, he’s a budding entrepreneur, running his own catering business.
: RISe’s Ambitious Plans for Malta
With success comes responsibility. RISe is now looking to expand its reach, plans are afoot to open a new centre in Paola. They’re also exploring partnerships with more businesses to create more job opportunities.
But RISe’s director, Dr. Joseph Borg, remains grounded. “We’re not in this for awards or recognition,” he says. “We’re here to make a difference, one life at a time.”
So, here’s to RISe Foundation – the quiet achiever that’s finally getting its due. Here’s to many more success stories, many more lives transformed. Because in Malta, success doesn’t always come early, but when it does, it’s worth the wait.
