Sip into Sannat: 6th Wine Festival Kicks Off

Raising a Glass to Tradition: Sannat’s Wine Festival Returns

Imagine this: the sun begins to set over the picturesque village of Sannat, Malta. The air is filled with the aroma of grilled food and the sound of lively chatter. This is not just any evening; it’s the eve of Sannat’s annual Wine Festival, a celebration that has become a staple in Malta’s cultural calendar.

Sannat: A Village with a Rich Wine Heritage

Nestled in the heart of Gozo, Sannat is a village with a rich wine-making heritage that dates back centuries. The village’s unique microclimate, with its warm, dry summers and mild winters, provides ideal conditions for viticulture. Today, Sannat is home to several local wine producers who continue to uphold this tradition.

One such producer is Marcelline Wines, a family-run winery that has been producing wine in Sannat for over 50 years. “The Wine Festival is more than just an event for us,” says Mario Xuereb, the winery’s proprietor. “It’s a chance to share our passion for wine and our village’s history with both locals and tourists.”

Sixth Edition: A Toast to the Future

The sixth edition of the Sannat Wine Festival is set to be bigger and better than ever. The three-day event, which takes place from the 22nd to the 24th of October, will feature wine tastings from local producers, traditional Maltese food, live music, and cultural activities.

This year’s festival will also introduce a new ‘Wine and Food Pairing’ session, led by local sommelier, Alex Dimech. “I’m excited to showcase the diversity of Maltese wines and how they can complement our unique cuisine,” says Dimech.

But the festival is not just about wine and food. It’s also a celebration of community. “The Wine Festival brings people together,” says Sannat’s mayor, Paul Gauci. “It’s a chance for us to showcase our village’s beauty and hospitality to the world.”

So, mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and head to Sannat this October. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or simply enjoy a good glass of wine, the Sannat Wine Festival promises an unforgettable experience.
