Malta’s Early Voting Arrangements Unveiled for 2023 Election
Early Birds: Electoral Commission Unveils Voting Arrangements for 2023
Imagine this: it’s a sunny morning in Msida, the day before the election. You’re sipping your coffee, still in your pyjamas, when you remember – today’s the day you’ve been putting off. Voting. But what if you could have done it yesterday? Welcome to early voting, Malta-style.
What’s the Deal with Early Voting?
The Electoral Commission has just announced that early voting will be held on the 3rd and 4th of March, two days before the general election on the 6th. This isn’t new – we’ve had early voting since 2017 – but it’s always good to know when and where you can cast your vote early.
Where and When Can I Vote Early?
Early voting will take place at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali. Yes, that’s right, the home of our beloved football team will be transformed into a polling station. The stadium will be open from 9 am to 6 pm on both the 3rd and 4th of March. So, if you’re planning to vote, you might want to mark those dates in your calendar.
But what if you can’t make it to Ta’ Qali? Don’t worry, the Electoral Commission has thought of that too. If you’re unable to vote due to illness, disability, or being overseas, you can still vote early. You’ll need to apply for a postal vote or a vote by proxy. The deadline for applications is the 20th of February, so don’t leave it until the last minute.
Why Bother with Early Voting?
You might be thinking, “Why should I bother voting early? I can just vote on the day.” And you’re right, you can. But voting early has its perks. For one, it’s a chance to avoid the last-minute rush. Imagine not having to queue on election day. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Plus, voting early can help increase turnout. The more people who vote, the more representative our democracy becomes. And who knows, you might even enjoy the walk around the National Stadium before or after casting your vote.
So, there you have it, folks. Early voting is coming to Malta. Whether you’re a seasoned voter or a first-timer, make sure you know your options. And remember, your vote matters. It’s your chance to have your say in who leads our country for the next five years.
Now, who’s ready to be an early bird?
