Żaren Launches ‘Ma tagħmlu xejn ma’ Tal-Ajkla’ Campaign

‘Ma tagħmlu xejn ma’ Tal-Ajkla’: Żaren launches ever-hopeful campaign in Malta

In the heart of Żabbar, a small yet determined group of locals have come together, armed with posters and a shared dream. They’re not just painting the town red, but a vibrant shade of hope. Their mission? To transform the once-neglected Tal-Ajkla area into a thriving community hub. Welcome to Żaren’s latest campaign, ‘Ma tagħmlu xejn ma’ Tal-Ajkla’ – ‘We won’t do nothing with Tal-Ajkla’.

Revitalising Tal-Ajkla: A Local Initiative

Tal-Ajkla, a stretch of land sandwiched between Żabbar’s main street and the railway tracks, has long been a forgotten space. Littered with abandoned buildings and overgrown weeds, it’s an eyesore that Żaren, a local NGO, is determined to change. “We believe in the power of community,” says Żaren’s coordinator, Mario Vella. “Tal-Ajkla is our backyard, and we’re not going to let it stay like this.”

Their plan? To transform Tal-Ajkla into a green space, complete with community gardens, a children’s play area, and a cultural hub. But this isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about creating a sense of belonging, a place where Żabbar’s residents can come together, grow, and thrive.

From Ideas to Action: Żaren’s Plan

Żaren’s vision is ambitious, but it’s backed by a solid plan. They’ve already secured the necessary permits and are currently fundraising to kickstart the project. Their goal? To raise €50,000 by the end of the year. “We’re not asking for handouts,” Vella explains. “We’re asking for investment in our community.”

The response so far has been encouraging. Local businesses have pledged their support, and the Żabbar Local Council has promised to match whatever Żaren raises. “It’s not just about Żaren,” Vella says. “It’s about Żabbar, about Malta. If we can do this here, imagine what we can do elsewhere.”

Joining the Movement: How You Can Help

So, how can you get involved? If you’re a Żabbar resident, Żaren encourages you to join their community clean-ups and planning sessions. If you’re a business owner, consider donating to their cause. And if you’re just a Maltese citizen who believes in the power of community, spread the word. Share their story, their vision, their hope.

“We’re not just painting a wall,” Vella says, looking out at the blank canvas that is Tal-Ajkla. “We’re painting a future. A future for Żabbar, for Malta. And we’re doing it together.”
