PAM to Contest All Districts in May 30 Election

Partit Aħwa Maltin: A New Force in Every District

Imagine this: Malta’s political scene, a vibrant mosaic of red and blue, is about to see a new colour added to its palette. This time, it’s not just a few districts, but all of them. Partit Aħwa Maltin (PAM) is gearing up to contest every single district in the upcoming local council elections on May 30. But who are they, and what do they stand for?

Who are Partit Aħwa Maltin?

PAM is a relatively new political party, formed in 2019. They’ve been quietly building their presence, focusing on grassroots activism and community engagement. Their mission? To bring a fresh perspective to Maltese politics, one that’s independent, progressive, and deeply rooted in local communities. They’ve already made their mark in the 2020 local council elections, winning seats in several districts.

But this year, they’re going all out. “We’ve seen the need for change in every district,” says PAM’s spokesperson, Maria Grech. “From Birkirkara to Żurrieq, people are hungry for a voice that truly represents their concerns and aspirations.”

A District-by-District Approach

PAM is taking a district-by-district approach, tailoring their manifesto to the unique needs and challenges of each area. In Birkirkara, for instance, they’re promising to tackle traffic congestion and improve public transport. In Żurrieq, they’re focusing on sustainable tourism and preserving the district’s rural character.

They’re also putting a strong emphasis on youth engagement. “We want to see more young people involved in local politics,” Grech says. “They’re the future, and their voices matter.” PAM is fielding several young candidates this year, including students and young professionals.

The PAM Manifesto: A Sneak Peek

While PAM is keeping some details of their manifesto under wraps until the official launch, they’ve given us a sneak peek into some of their key promises:

    • Environmental Sustainability: PAM is committed to making Malta’s local councils greener and more sustainable. This includes promoting recycling and composting initiatives, protecting green areas, and encouraging the use of renewable energy.
    • Community Engagement: PAM wants to see more community involvement in local decision-making. They’re promising to hold regular public meetings and surveys to gauge residents’ opinions and needs.
    • Economic Development: PAM is focusing on diversifying Malta’s economy, promoting small businesses, and creating jobs. They’re also promising to tackle issues like housing affordability and social inequality.

But PAM isn’t just about promises. They’re also about action. They’ve already been active in various community initiatives, from beach clean-ups to supporting local charities. “We’re not just a political party,” Grech says. “We’re a community of people who care about Malta and want to make a difference.”

So, will Partit Aħwa Maltin make a significant impact in the upcoming local council elections? . But one thing’s for sure: Malta’s political scene is about to get a whole lot more colourful.
