Former Gżira Mayor Joins PN’s Electoral Race

From Gżira’s Mayor to PN’s Candidate: A Political Journey Unfolds

In the heart of Malta, where the Grand Harbour’s waves lap against the ancient walls of Valletta, a political tale is unfolding. Former Gżira Local Council Mayor, Conrad Borg Manché, has announced his intention to contest the upcoming election as a candidate for the Nationalist Party (PN). This decision, made under the shade of the iconic Gżira Band Club, has set tongues wagging and political pundits abuzz.

Conrad Borg Manché: A Political Odyssey

Conrad Borg Manché, a name synonymous with Gżira politics, has been a familiar figure in the local council for over a decade. First elected in 2009, he served as mayor from 2013 until 2019. His tenure was marked by significant developments, including the regeneration of the Gżira waterfront and the implementation of sustainable initiatives like the ‘Gżira Green’ project. Now, he’s ready to take his political journey to the national stage.

“Gżira has been my political home, my training ground,” says Borg Manché, reflecting on his decision. “But I believe I can contribute more at a national level. I want to bring the perspective of our local councils, the issues we face, to the national parliament.”

PN Welcomes a Familiar Face

The PN, currently in opposition, has welcomed Borg Manché’s decision with open arms. Party leader Bernard Grech sees in him a valuable addition to their electoral list. “Conrad brings with him a wealth of local experience,” Grech says. “He understands the challenges our communities face, and he has the drive and determination to make a difference.”

Borg Manché will be contesting in the 12th district, which includes Gżira, Msida, and parts of Birkirkara. It’s a district he knows well, having represented Gżira there for years. “I’m looking forward to connecting with more people, understanding their concerns, and representing them in parliament,” he says.

Political Shifts and Local Concerns

Borg Manché’s decision comes at a time of political flux in Malta. The ruling Labour Party (PL) has been in power since 2013, but recent scandals and a shifting political scene have made the upcoming election a hotly contested affair. Issues like the economy, housing, and the environment are at the forefront of voters’ minds, and candidates like Borg Manché will have to grapple with these concerns.

For Borg Manché, the key issues are close to home. “Affordable housing, sustainable development, and quality of life are what matter most to people in Gżira and beyond,” he says. “I want to ensure that our communities are at the heart of national policy.”

As the election approaches, Borg Manché’s political journey will continue to unfold. From the streets of Gżira to the halls of parliament, his story is one that voters will be watching closely.
