Imagine standing at the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, the sun casting a warm glow on the historic buildings. In a few weeks, the fate of our island will be decided here and in every district. Who are the people vying for your vote? Let’s meet them.

Sliema to St. Julian’s: A Tale of Two Cities

Sliema and St. Julian’s, two districts separated by a stone’s throw, yet worlds apart in their political leanings. Sliema, the traditional stronghold of the Labour Party, sees a mix of familiar faces and fresh blood this election. incumbents Owen Bonnici and Rosianne Cutajar are joined by first-timers like lawyer and environmentalist Alexei Dingli. The PN, meanwhile, is banking on the popularity of MP and former mayor Clayton Bartolo to retain its single seat in the district.

St. Julian’s, on the other hand, has been a PN fortress since 2013. Incumbent MP and former mayor Josie Muscat is seeking re-election, facing off against Labour’s Robert Cutajar. The district, known for its vibrant nightlife and high-end real estate, will be a key battleground in this election.

From Birkirkara to Zebbug: The Heartland

Birkirkara, the most populous locality in Malta, is a microcosm of Maltese politics. Labour’s Chris Fearne and PN’s Mario de Marco have been representing the district since 2013. This time around, they’re joined by a third candidate, independent candidate and former PN MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando. The district’s voters will have a clear choice between the status quo and a challenge from within.

Zebbug, a small town in the heart of Malta, is known for its traditional architecture and rich history. Labour’s Ivan Bartolo and PN’s David Agius have been representing the district since 2017. This election, they’re joined by independent candidate and former PN MP Frank Tanti. The district’s voters will have a say in whether they want to stick with the established or opt for a change.

Gozo: The Sister Island’s Voice

Gozo, Malta’s sister island, has always punched above its weight in Maltese politics. This election, Labour’s Justyne Caruana and PN’s David Stellini are seeking re-election. They’re joined by independent candidate and former PN MP Joe Galdes. The island’s voters will have a significant say in who forms the next government.

From the bustling streets of Sliema to the quiet lanes of Zebbug, this election is about more than just politics. It’s about the people of Malta, their hopes, their dreams, and their vision for our island. So, as you stand in line to vote, remember, this is your district, these are your candidates. Make your voice heard.
