Birkirkara Blaze: Photos Reveal Devastation of House Fire

Smoke billowed into the crisp Birkirkara sky yesterday, as a fierce fire engulfed a three-storey house on Triq San Ġużepp, leaving residents in shock and firefighters battling the blaze for hours. The fire, which started around midday, sent plumes of black smoke visible from nearby streets, including the bustling Triq il-Kbira.

Firefighting Efforts

The Malta Fire Authority (MFA) received multiple calls about the fire, dispatching several appliances and around 30 firefighters to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the house heavily involved in fire, with flames leaping from windows and smoke pouring from every opening. Firefighters worked tirelessly, using ladder platforms and water jets to contain and extinguish the blaze, which took several hours to bring under control.

“We faced significant challenges due to the intensity of the fire and the layout of the building,” said a spokesperson for the MFA. “Our teams worked diligently to ensure the safety of residents and nearby properties.”

Residents Evacuated

Residents of the affected house and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. Many watched in disbelief as their neighbourhood was consumed by the intense fire. “I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Maria, a long-time Birkirkara resident. “The smoke was so thick, and the heat was incredible. I just hope everyone is okay.”

No injuries were reported, but the house was left severely damaged, with windows shattered and walls blackened by smoke and soot. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the MFA and the police.
