St. Julian’s, Malta – A four-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a tragic accident at a private residence in St. Julian’s. The youngster fell into the family’s swimming pool and was found unconscious by his parents yesterday evening.

Emergency Response

The boy’s parents, who were at home at the time, immediately called for an ambulance. Paramedics from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived at the scene in Triq San Ġorġ Preca within minutes, performing CPR and rushing the child to Mater Dei Hospital. The boy was pronounced in critical condition upon arrival.

Neighbours and friends of the family have been left devastated by the news. “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,” said a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous. “We’re all hoping and praying for the little one’s recovery.”

Pool Safety in Malta

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of pool safety, especially during the summer months when many Maltese families have their pools in use. According to the Malta Resuscitation Council, drowning is a leading cause of accidental death among children aged one to four.

“Always keep an eye on children around water,” advises Dr. Marie Claire Aquilina, a local pediatrician. “Install barriers around your pool, and consider learning CPR. Every second counts in these situations.”

Community Support and Investigation

The community has rallied around the family, offering support and prayers. A spokesperson for the family thanked everyone for their kindness and asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Police are investigating the incident. They have appealed to anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, the boy remains in the intensive care unit, with his parents by his side.

“We’re keeping the little fighter in our thoughts and prayers,” said a family friend. “We’re hoping for a miracle.”
