Gżira Mayor’s Political U-Turn

Gżira’s Political Winds Shift: Former Mayor Joins PN

In the heart of Malta, where the sun-kissed streets of Gżira meet the Mediterranean, a political shift is brewing. The former mayor of this bustling town, known for its vibrant seafront and historic church, has thrown his hat into the ring with the Nationalist Party (PN).

From Labour to Nationalist: A Political U-Turn

Chamberlain Pullicino, a familiar face in Gżira politics, has announced his intention to contest the next local council elections on the PN ticket. This move marks a significant departure from his previous allegiance to the Labour Party (PL), under whose banner he served as mayor until 2019.

Pullicino, a seasoned politician with a decade of local government experience, is no stranger to the political arena. His decision to switch sides, however, has raised eyebrows and sparked conversations among Gżira’s residents. “It’s not every day you see a former mayor change parties,” said Joe, a local shopkeeper on Triq San Ġorġ, Gżira’s main street.

PN Welcomes Pullicino: A Boost for the Opposition?

The PN has welcomed Pullicino’s decision, seeing it as a boost to their electoral prospects in Gżira. The party, which has traditionally held strong in the town, lost the mayoral seat to the PL in the last elections. Pullicino’s experience and local knowledge, they hope, could help turn the tide.

“Chamberlain’s decision to join us is a testament to our party’s strength and vision,” said PN’s local district leader, Mario Debono. “We’re confident that his experience will be an asset to our team.”

Gżira Residents: Divided or United?

Pullicino’s move has divided Gżira’s residents, with some welcoming his experience and others questioning his party switch. “I’ve known Chamberlain for years. He’s always been about what’s best for Gżira,” said Maria, a long-time resident. Others, however, are more skeptical. “It’s a bit surprising, but I guess we’ll see what happens at the elections,” said David, a young professional living in the town.

Regardless of the differing opinions, one thing is clear: Gżira’s political scene is heating up. As the next local council elections approach, residents are gearing up for a lively debate and a closely contested race.

In the meantime, Pullicino remains focused on his goal. “I’m looking forward to working with the PN to make Gżira an even better place to live,” he said. “My love for this town and its people has never wavered, and I’m committed to serving them to the best of my ability.”
