Eurovision 2023: Finland & Israel Through to Final
Eurovision Fever Hits Malta: Finland and Israel Sail Through Semis
Malta’s Republic Street was a buzz last night, with local Eurofans spilling out of bars, cheering and singing along to their favourite Eurovision acts. The semi-finals are over, and two favourites have secured their spots in the grand final. Finland’s ‘Dark Side’ and Israel’s ‘I.M’ have left their mark, and Malta can’t wait to see more.
Finland’s ‘Dark Side’ Enchants Europe
Finland’s rock band, The Rasmus, brought the heat with their powerful ballad ‘Dark Side’. Dressed in black, lead singer Lauri Ylönen belted out the lyrics, “I’m on the dark side, I’m on the dark side of the moon,” leaving audiences spellbound. The band’s raw energy and Ylönen’s emotive vocals resonated with fans across Europe, including those watching from the sunny streets of Malta.
Malta’s own Eurovision enthusiast and local music teacher, Joe Camilleri, was seen swaying to the music outside the popular Republic Street café, The Point. “The Rasmus have always been a favourite of mine,” he said, “but last night, they outdid themselves. That performance was pure magic!”
Israel’s ‘I.M’ Brings Tears and Cheers
Israel’s representative, Lior Shoov, brought the house down with her emotional performance of ‘I.M’. The song, a tribute to her late mother, had audiences reaching for their tissues. Shoov’s powerful vocals and the song’s poignant lyrics struck a chord with viewers, including those tuning in from Malta.
Local psychologist and Eurovision fan, Dr. Maria Zammit, was moved to tears. “Lior’s performance was incredibly moving,” she said. “It’s a testament to the power of music to heal and connect us. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her in the final.”
Malta’s Favourite: Sweden’s ‘Tattoo’
While Finland and Israel secured their spots in the final, Malta’s favourite, Sweden’s ‘Tattoo’, didn’t make the cut. The song, performed by Loreen, was a fan favourite, but it seems Europe had other plans. Despite the disappointment, Maltese Eurofans remain optimistic and eager for the final.
Local tattoo artist and Loreen fan, Mark Attard, was seen consoling fellow fans outside his shop, Ink & Dagger, on Strait Street. “We’re gutted, but that’s the game,” he said. “We’ll be cheering for our favourites in the final, and maybe we’ll get some new tattoo ideas from the performances!”
With the semi-finals over, the stage is set for an exciting Eurovision final. Malta’s Eurofans are ready, their votes are in, and they’re eager to see who will take home the coveted trophy. As for now, it’s time to raise a glass to Finland and Israel, and look forward to more Eurovision magic.
