Gozo’s Four-Legged Mystery: Injured Rabbit Found
Bizarre Discovery: Four-Legged Rabbit Found in Gozo
Imagine strolling along the sun-kissed paths of Gozo, the sister island of Malta, when you spot a small, furry creature struggling to keep up with its peers. Upon closer inspection, you realize that this isn’t your average rabbit. It has four snapped legs.
An Unusual Sight
This was the peculiar sight that greeted a local resident while walking near the picturesque Xewkija Hill last week. The rabbit, with two of its hind legs and one of its front legs snapped, was found hobbling along, a stark contrast to the usual bounding leaps of its fellow rabbits.
Intrigued and concerned, the resident scooped up the injured rabbit and sought help from the local animal welfare organization, Animal Guardians. The organization, based in Xlendi, has been caring for the rabbit, named ‘Lucky’ for obvious reasons, ever since.
Unraveling the Mystery
Dr. Maria Galea, the vet treating Lucky, is baffled by the unique injury pattern. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” she admits. “The breaks are clean, suggesting they weren’t caused by a predator. It’s as if someone deliberately snapped them.”
Animal Guardians have launched an investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might shed light on how Lucky came to be in this state. They suspect it could be a case of animal cruelty, a grim reminder that even in the peaceful surroundings of Gozo, such acts can occur.
Caring for Lucky
Despite his injuries, Lucky is in good spirits, according to the vet. “He’s eating well and his wounds are healing nicely,” Dr. Galea reports. The vet is hopeful that with time and proper care, Lucky could make a full recovery and even be rehomed.
Animal Guardians are urging anyone with information about Lucky’s injuries to come forward. They also remind the public that if they suspect animal cruelty, they should report it immediately. “Every animal deserves to live a life free from pain and suffering,” they say.
In the meantime, Lucky continues to captivate the hearts of those caring for him. His resilience is a testament to the indomitable spirit of these creatures that roam freely across our islands.
