Lija Roundabout Resurfacing: What You Need to Know
In the early hours of Tuesday, a truck crash left a section of the Lija roundabout in disarray, with debris scattered across the road and a deep crater marking the impact. Now, the local council has announced plans to resurface the affected area, aiming to restore safety and smooth traffic flow.
Truck Crash Leaves Lija Roundabout in Need of Resurfacing
The incident, which occurred around 3 am, involved a truck losing control and crashing into the roundabout, causing significant damage. The roundabout, a major junction connecting Lija, Balzan, and Birkirkara, has since been operating with reduced lanes, causing minor traffic congestion during peak hours.
Resurfacing Works to Begin Soon
In response to the incident, Lija Local Council has confirmed that resurfacing works will commence next week. The project, estimated to take around seven days to complete, will focus on the damaged section of the roundabout and the surrounding roads. The council has assured residents and commuters that they will do their best to minimize disruption during the works.
“We understand the inconvenience caused by this incident and the subsequent traffic congestion,” said the Mayor of Lija, “We’re working diligently to ensure the roundabout is restored to its former state as soon as possible.”
Safety Measures and Traffic Management
During the resurfacing works, traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of both workers and commuters. The council has advised drivers to expect delays and to plan their journeys accordingly. Alternative routes via Triq il-Kuncizzjoni or Triq San Pawl may help alleviate traffic congestion during this period.
“We urge drivers to exercise patience and caution while the works are in progress,” said a spokesperson for the council, “The safety of our community is our top priority, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation in ensuring a swift and safe completion of these works.”
Hot Malta will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the resurfacing works progress. In the meantime, we encourage our readers to stay informed and plan their journeys accordingly.
