Malta’s Eurovision Enthusiasts Cheer as Finland & Israel Advance

Eurovision Fever Hits Malta: Finland and Israel Sail Through Semis

As the sun set over the Grand Harbour in Valletta, Malta’s Eurovision enthusiasts gathered around their screens last night, cheering on their favourites in the first semi-final. The contest, held in Turin, Italy, saw Finland’s rockers Blind Channel and Israel’s powerhouse Efrat Gosh breeze through to the grand final, leaving Maltese fans eager for more.

Finland’s Heavy Metal Moment

Malta’s metalheads were in their element as Blind Channel took to the stage with their anthemic ‘Dark Side’. The band, hailing from Oulu, Finland, brought a taste of the Arctic Circle’s heavy metal scene to the Mediterranean. Their powerful performance, complete with pyrotechnics and a captivating light show, had fans at Strait Street’s Café Society headbanging in unison.

“We’ve been waiting for a heavy metal act to represent Europe at Eurovision for years,” said Malta’s very own metalhead and Eurovision commentator, Paul Aquilina. “Blind Channel’s performance was everything we hoped for and more. They’ve set the bar high for the rest of the contest.”

Israel’s Voice of an Angel

Meanwhile, Israeli singer Efrat Gosh captivated audiences with her soulful ballad ‘The Kind You See in Movies’. Her powerful vocals, reminiscent of Maltese Eurovision legend Ira Losco, had fans at Gaucho restaurant in Paceville reaching for their tissues. Efrat’s emotional performance, dedicated to her late grandmother, was a standout moment of the night.

“Efrat’s voice is simply stunning,” said Maltese-Israeli singer and Eurovision fan, Sharon Vella. “Her performance was a beautiful tribute to her grandmother, and I’m sure it’ll resonate with many viewers who’ve lost loved ones.”

Malta’s Chance to Shine

With the first semi-final out of the way, all eyes are now on Malta’s entry, Destiny, who will take to the stage in the second semi-final on Thursday. Destiny, who represented Malta in 2020 and 2021, is no stranger to the Eurovision stage. Her powerful ballad ‘Je me casse’ has been a fan favourite since its release, and Maltese fans are confident that she’ll fly the flag high for the island nation.

“Destiny has proven herself time and time again,” said Maltese Eurovision commentator, Ronald Briffa. “She’s a true professional, and I have no doubt that she’ll give a stellar performance on Thursday. Let’s get behind her and show the world what Malta’s made of!”
