Unlikely Discovery: A Four-Legged Rabbit in Gozo

Imagine stumbling upon a creature that seems to defy nature’s rules. This was the reality for a local resident in Gozo who recently found a rabbit with four snapped legs. The scene, unfolding in the quiet streets of Xagħra, left both the finder and the local community bewildered.

Unraveling the Mystery

The rabbit, now named ‘Quad’ by its caretakers at the Gozo Animal Welfare, was found with all four legs broken, not just snapped, but cleanly broken. Dr. Mark Sultana, the vet treating Quad, was equally puzzled. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” he admitted, “It’s not a typical injury for a rabbit.”

Quad’s unique condition has sparked curiosity and concern among locals. Some have speculated about possible causes, from freak accidents to cruel pranks. However, the lack of external wounds or signs of struggle suggests a more unusual explanation.

Community Response and Care

The discovery has brought the community together in support of Quad. A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover Quad’s medical expenses, with donations pouring in from both locals and expats. “It’s heartwarming to see how people care,” said the page’s creator, Maria Grech, a Xagħra resident.

Quad is now receiving specialist care at the Gozo Animal Welfare. Despite his condition, he’s proving to be a fighter. “He’s eating well and seems to be in good spirits,” Dr. Sultana reported, “But we’re still trying to figure out how this happened.”

Quad’s story has also raised awareness about the importance of rabbit welfare. “Rabbits are often overlooked as pets,” said Grech, “But they’re intelligent, social animals that deserve our care and respect.”

Quad’s future is uncertain, but his caretakers are hopeful. They’re exploring options for prosthetics or other forms of support to help him move around comfortably. In the meantime, Quad is providing a unique opportunity for education and awareness about rabbit welfare.

“We don’t know how this happened,” said Dr. Sultana, “But we do know that Quad deserves a chance at a happy, comfortable life. And we’re going to give him that.”
