Paceville Drug Bust: Man Arrested for Possession, Trafficking
Drugs Seized in Paceville Raid: Man Arrested for Possession, Trafficking
Early Tuesday morning, the quiet streets of Paceville, St. Julian’s, were disrupted by a flurry of police activity. A man, later identified as 32-year-old Maltese national, Mario Vella, was arrested following a raid on a flat in Triq San Giljan. Police seized a substantial amount of drugs, including cocaine and cannabis, along with paraphernalia suggesting drug trafficking.
Operation ‘Sunrise’ Nets Significant Drug Haul
Dubbed ‘Operation Sunrise’ by the police, the raid was the result of months of surveillance and intelligence gathering. The Anti-Drug Squad, assisted by the Armed Forces of Malta, executed a search warrant at the Paceville flat, where they found 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, 5 kilograms of cannabis, and various items used for packaging and distributing drugs. Vella was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court later this week.
Paceville: A Hotspot for Drug Activity?
Paceville, known for its vibrant nightlife and tourist hotspots like Bay Street and the Dragonara Casino, has long been a focus for police anti-drug operations. While the area attracts thousands of tourists each year, it also has a darker side, with drug dealers and users often operating in the shadows. The recent raid, however, suggests that the police are stepping up their efforts to clean up the streets.
“We’re sending a clear message to drug dealers,” said a senior police officer involved in the operation. “Paceville is not a safe haven for your activities. We will continue to monitor and disrupt your operations.”
Community Reaction and Support for Police Efforts
Local residents and business owners have welcomed the police action. “It’s about time they did something about the drug problem here,” said Joe, a long-time resident of St. Julian’s. “We’re tired of seeing dealers on our streets and tourists getting into trouble.”
Business owners, too, have expressed support for the police efforts. “We want Paceville to be a safe and enjoyable place for everyone,” said Lisa, who runs a popular bar on Bay Street. “We’re glad to see the police taking a tough stance on drugs.”
In the wake of the raid, police have urged anyone with information about drug activity in Paceville or elsewhere on the island to come forward. “Your information could help us take more dangerous criminals off the streets,” said a police spokesperson.
As the investigation into the Paceville drug bust continues, one thing is clear: the police are determined to make Malta’s streets safer, one operation at a time.
