Traffic Chaos: Three Accidents Trigger Warnings from Transport Malta

As the sun rose over the Grand Harbour this morning, little did Malta’s commuters know that their journey to work would be anything but smooth sailing. Three separate accidents, spanning from Msida to Żebbuġ, have left roads congested and nerves frayed, with Transport Malta issuing urgent warnings to motorists.

Accidents in Quick Succession

The first incident occurred around 7:30 AM on Triq San Gorg, Msida, where a collision between a car and a bus left the road partially blocked. Barely an hour later, another accident was reported on Triq l-Imqades, Żebbuġ, involving two private cars. The cherry on top of this traffic sundae was a third accident on the Mrieħel Bypass, which happened just as commuters were hoping to escape the city’s congestion.

These accidents, coming in quick succession, have left drivers fuming and Transport Malta scrambling to manage the fallout.

Transport Malta’s Response

In the wake of these incidents, Transport Malta has been quick to issue warnings and advice to motorists. Speaking to Hot Malta, a spokesperson said, “We urge drivers to exercise caution and patience. These accidents have caused significant delays, and we’re doing our best to clear the roads as quickly as possible.”

They also reminded drivers to adhere to speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid using mobile phones while driving.

Alternate Routes and Public Transport

With the main roads gridlocked, many drivers have been forced to find alternative routes. However, this has led to congestion on secondary roads, further exacerbating the problem. Those lucky enough to be near a bus stop may have fared better, as Malta Public Transport has been working overtime to accommodate the increased demand.

Hot Malta spoke to a bus driver, who wished to remain anonymous, who said, “We’re doing our best to keep to schedule, but with all these diversions and extra passengers, it’s not easy.”

For those still planning to drive, Transport Malta advises using real-time traffic apps to stay informed about road conditions and plan alternate routes.

As the day wears on, commuters can only hope that the roads will return to their usual state of chaos (we jest, of course). With no let-up in traffic expected anytime soon, it’s crucial that drivers remain vigilant and patient.

In the words of Transport Malta, “Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe. Drive carefully, and remember, every journey begins with a single step – and a single check of your mirrors.”
