Archbishop Scicluna Back Home After Successful Heart Surgery
As the sun set over the historic streets of Mdina, the Archbishop of Malta, Charles J. Scicluna, returned home yesterday following a successful heart surgery in the United States. The news, confirmed by the Archdiocese of Malta, has been met with relief and joy by the local Catholic community.
Surgery in the US
The Archbishop underwent a coronary bypass operation at the renowned Cleveland Clinic in Ohio earlier this month. The procedure, performed by a team of specialist cardiologists, was successful, and the Archbishop has since made a steady recovery. He was discharged from the hospital last week and has been convalescing at a nearby residence.
Back Home in Malta
Archbishop Scicluna arrived back in Malta yesterday afternoon, greeted by a small group of well-wishers at Malta International Airport. He looked in good spirits, waving and smiling as he made his way through the terminal. He will now continue his recovery at the Archbishop’s Palace in Floriana, with the support of his medical team and the staff of the Curia.
In a statement released yesterday, the Archdiocese of Malta expressed their gratitude to the medical team at the Cleveland Clinic for their professionalism and care. They also extended their thanks to the Maltese community in the US and back home for their prayers and support during the Archbishop’s absence.
Archbishop Scicluna’s return to Malta comes as a relief to the local Catholic community, who have been praying for his swift recovery. While he will take some time to fully recover, he is expected to resume his duties in the coming weeks. The Archdiocese has not yet announced a date for his first public appearance since his surgery.
As the Archbishop convalesces, the local community is invited to keep him in their prayers. A Mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Valletta on Sunday, 25th September, at 6 pm, to which all are welcome.
