Malta Red Cross Launches Lifeline: 24/7 Health Monitoring and Support Service
Imagine, it’s 3 AM, and you’re suddenly short of breath. Panic sets in, but then you remember – the Malta Red Cross has just launched a 24/7 health monitoring and support service. A lifeline in the dead of night, and a first for Malta.
The Need for a 24/7 Service
Malta’s healthcare system has long been praised for its quality, but like many places, it’s not immune to strain. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this, leaving many Islanders anxious about their health. The Malta Red Cross, ever the community champion, saw a gap and stepped in.
“We realised that people needed more support, especially during these uncertain times,” says Mr. Martin Gauci, Secretary General of the Malta Red Cross. “A 24/7 service was the obvious next step.”
How It Works
The service, launched in partnership with the Ministry for Health, is simple yet powerful. Dial 116117, and you’ll be connected to a team of trained professionals ready to provide medical advice, emotional support, or even dispatch an ambulance if needed.
“We’re here to help, whether it’s a medical emergency or just a worried mind that needs reassurance,” says Dr. Marcelle Pisani, Medical Director of the service.
But what about those who can’t call? The service is also accessible via SMS, making it a lifeline for the deaf and hard of hearing community. A small but significant detail that speaks volumes about the Red Cross’ commitment to inclusivity.
A Beacon of Hope on Triq San Gwann
Tucked away on Triq San Gwann, the Malta Red Cross headquarters is more than just an office. It’s a symbol of hope, a testament to the power of community, and now, a 24/7 lifeline for Malta. The new service is a reminder that in times of crisis, we’re not alone. Help is just a call away.
“We’re here for Malta, 24/7,” says Mr. Gauci. “No matter what time, no matter what the situation, we’ll be there.”
