Malta’s Eurovision Hope: Aidan’s Journey to the Global Stage

Malta International Airport, a hive of activity, buzzes with excitement as Aidan, our island’s Eurovision hopeful, prepares for his flight to Rotterdam. Among the sea of faces, a few hold ‘Good Luck Aidan’ banners, their eyes sparkling with pride and anticipation. The question on everyone’s lips: Can Aidan make Malta proud at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest?

From Malta’s Got Talent to Eurovision

Aidan, a 20-year-old from Msida, has come a long way since his audition for Malta’s Got Talent in 2019. His powerful rendition of ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman earned him a standing ovation and a place in the hearts of Maltese viewers. Fast forward to 2021, Aidan’s journey has taken him from the stage of the MFCC to the global platform of Eurovision.

“I still remember the feeling of performing in front of that live audience,” Aidan recalls. “It was overwhelming, but it fueled my passion to keep pushing, to keep dreaming bigger.”

A Song for the Ages

Aidan’s Eurovision journey began last year when he was selected to participate in Malta’s national selection, X Factor Malta. His performance of ‘Desperado’ by The Eagles earned him a place in the final, where he ultimately finished in third place. However, his journey didn’t end there. When the opportunity to represent Malta at Eurovision arose, Aidan was ready.

“I’m proud to be singing ‘Je Me Casse’ at Eurovision,” Aidan says, his eyes reflecting the confidence and excitement he feels. “It’s a song about breaking free, about not letting anyone or anything hold you back. I think it’s a message that resonates with everyone, especially now.”

Malta’s Support: Loud and Proud

As Aidan prepares to take the Eurovision stage, Malta stands firmly behind him. From the Prime Minister’s tweet wishing him luck to the countless posts on social media, the support is overwhelming. “It’s incredible to see how much support I have back home,” Aidan says, a smile spreading across his face. “It’s not just about me anymore. It’s about making Malta proud.”

In the heart of Valletta, at the iconic City Gate, a large screen will broadcast Aidan’s performance live. Fans will gather, their hearts pounding with every note, their voices echoing through the historic streets as they sing along. It’s a testament to the power of music to bring people together, to unite a nation behind one of its own.

“I can’t wait to see everyone in Valletta, cheering me on,” Aidan says. “It’s going to be an emotional moment, I know it.”

: Aidan’s Dream

Eurovision is just the beginning for Aidan. His dream is to inspire others, to show them that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. “I want to be a role model for the next generation,” he says. “I want them to look at me and think, ‘If Aidan can do it, so can I.'”

As Aidan boards his flight to Rotterdam, the question that started this journey echoes in our minds: Can Aidan make Malta proud at Eurovision? With his talent, his determination, and the unwavering support of his nation, there’s no doubt that he will.

“I’m not just singing for myself,” Aidan says, his voice filled with emotion. “I’m singing for Malta. I’m singing for every person who has ever believed in me. I’m singing to make us all proud.”
