Malta’s Special Voting Arrangements for Hospital Patients & Elderly Care Residents
Voting Made Easy: Hospital Patients & Elderly Care Residents Get Special Arrangements
Imagine you’re bedridden at Mater Dei Hospital, or residing at an elderly care home in St. Ancilla Square, Qormi. Voting might seem like a distant dream, but not this year. The Electoral Commission has rolled out the red carpet for you, ensuring your vote counts.
Why the Special Arrangements?
Malta’s Electoral Commission understands that mobility challenges shouldn’t hinder your democratic right. With the upcoming local council elections, they’ve stepped up to make voting accessible to all. This initiative aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16, promoting inclusive and participatory institutions.
How Will It Work?
Hospital Patients: If you’re admitted to Mater Dei Hospital, Mater Dei Rehabilitation Hospital, or Gozo General Hospital on polling day, don’t worry. Electoral officers will visit you between 9 am and 12 pm. They’ll bring the ballot box to your bedside, ensuring your vote is cast in privacy and comfort.
Elderly Care Home Residents: Residents in elderly care homes across Malta and Gozo will also have a special voting arrangement. Electoral officers will visit homes between 2 pm and 5 pm on polling day. This includes homes in popular areas like St. Ancilla Square, Qormi, and Triq San Gorg Preca, Birkirkara.
What If You Can’t Vote on Polling Day?
If you’re unable to vote on polling day due to illness or disability, you can still cast your vote. You can apply for a postal vote or vote at an advance polling station. Forms are available at your local council office or online on the Electoral Commission’s website.
Remember, your vote is your voice. Make it count. For more information, visit the Electoral Commission’s website or call their hotline on 153.
