In the quiet, residential area of Msida, a man was arrested and remanded in custody yesterday, following allegations of a violent sexual assault on his former partner. The incident, which reportedly occurred in a third-floor apartment on Triq San Pawl, has through the close-knit community, leaving neighbours stunned and residents calling for stricter measures against domestic violence.

The victim, a 32-year-old woman, mustered the courage to report the alleged assault to the police, setting in motion a series of events that led to the man’s arrest. According to sources close to the investigation, the woman sustained severe injuries, requiring hospitalisation. Police swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest within 24 hours.

Community Reacts: “Not in Our Backyard”
Residents of Msida have been left reeling by the news. Many have taken to social media to express their outrage and solidarity with the victim. “This is not the Msida we know and love,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “We’re a close community, and we won’t stand for this kind of behaviour.”
Local councillor, Joseph Muscat, echoed these sentiments. “We’re doing everything in our power to support the victim and ensure the safety of our community. This incident underscores the need for more awareness and stricter penalties against domestic violence,” he said.
