Marsa council appeals for ducks to be rehomed after several die

Imagine strolling along the serene Marsa Sportsground, the gentle breeze carrying the quacks of ducks gliding on the water. Now, picture that scene fading away, replaced by an eerie silence. This is the reality Marsa council fears, as several ducks have died, leaving them appealing for new homes for the survivors.

Marsa, a town known for its rich history and vibrant community, has always been home to a thriving duck population. However, recent events have turned this into a cause for concern. The council has reported an unusual number of duck deaths, with no clear cause yet identified.

“We’ve seen a significant decline in our feathered friends,” says Marsa Mayor, Dr. Josef Borg. “It’s not just sad, it’s also a sign that something’s not right in our ecosystem.”

In response to this worrying trend, Marsa council has launched an appeal to rehome the surviving ducks. They’ve reached out to local bird sanctuaries, wildlife charities, and even private individuals who might be able to provide a safe haven for these birds.

“We’re not just asking for a temporary solution,” Dr. Borg explains. “We’re looking for permanent homes where these ducks can live out their lives peacefully and safely.”

While the rehoming process is underway, Marsa council is also working with environmental experts to understand why these ducks are dying. Samples have been taken from the water and the deceased birds, with results expected in the coming weeks.

“We need to get to the root of this problem,” Dr. Borg says. “Only then can we ensure the safety of the remaining ducks and prevent this from happening again.”

News of the dying ducks has sparked an outpouring of concern from Marsa residents. Many have shared their memories of the ducks and expressed their willingness to help.

“I’ve been feeding these ducks since I was a child,” says long-time Marsa resident, Maria Grech. “To see them disappearing like this, it’s heartbreaking. I’ve already contacted the council to see how I can help.”
