Marsa’s Ducks in Distress: Council Appeals for Rehoming

Quacking Crisis: Marsa Council’s Plea to Save Remaining Ducks

In the heart of Marsa, a usually bustling town known for its vibrant fishing village and historic shipyards, an unusual silence has descended upon the once lively duck pond. The reason? A sudden decline in the feathered residents, leaving the local council scrambling for a solution.

Duck Population Dwindles

Over the past few months, the Marsa Local Council has reported a significant decrease in the duck population at the town’s beloved pond, located just off Triq il-Kbira. What was once a lively scene of quacking and splashing has now been reduced to a mere handful of ducks, a stark reminder of the once thriving community.

Council members have been left baffled by this sudden decline. “We’ve always had ducks here,” says Joe Xuereb, a long-time Marsa resident and council member. “It’s part of what makes Marsa, Marsa. To see them disappearing like this is worrying.”

Cause of the Decline

The council has been working tirelessly to get to the bottom of this mystery. Initial investigations suggest that the decline could be due to a combination of factors. The harsh winter, lack of food, and perhaps even natural predation could all be playing a part.

However, the council is not ruling out other possibilities. “We’re looking into every angle,” says Xuereb. “We’ve even considered the impact of the recent construction work in the area. Anything that could potentially disrupt their habitat or food source.”

Appeal for Rehoming

With the remaining ducks in a vulnerable state, the Marsa Local Council has issued an urgent appeal. They’re calling on the public to help rehome the surviving ducks to ensure their survival.

“We’re reaching out to local farms, wildlife sanctuaries, and even private households,” says Xuereb. “Anywhere that can provide a safe and suitable home for these ducks. We’re desperate to prevent any further loss of life.”

The council has also set up a hotline for anyone interested in providing a temporary or permanent home for the ducks. They can be reached at +356 2124 3100.

Xuereb adds, “We’re not just losing ducks here. We’re losing a piece of Marsa’s identity. We need everyone’s help to turn this situation around.”
