Birkirkara Teen Attack: Court Hears Graphic Details
Birkirkara Teen’s Horrific Attack: Court Hears Details, Locals Demand Justice
It was a warm summer evening in Birkirkara, Malta’s most populous town, when 17-year-old Matthew’s life took a brutal turn. As he walked home from a friend’s house along Triq San Pawl, the usually bustling street was eerily quiet. Suddenly, a group of young men approached, their faces hidden behind hoods. Within minutes, Matthew was on the ground, his face slashed, and his world shattered.
Court Hears Graphic Details
Matthew’s attackers, aged between 18 and 20, are now standing trial at the Criminal Court in Valletta. The courtroom was filled with gasps and tears as the prosecution recounted the graphic details of the attack. The teenager was allegedly slashed across the face with a broken bottle, leaving him with a deep, jagged scar that will forever remind him of that fateful night.
The prosecution argued that the attack was unprovoked, with no evidence of any prior altercation. The defendants, however, claim it was an act of self-defense, a claim that the prosecution dismissed as “ludicrous”. The trial continues, with the court yet to deliver a verdict.
Birkirkara Residents Demand Justice
News of the attack has through Birkirkara. Residents have taken to social media, demanding justice for Matthew. “This could have happened to any of our children,” said Maria, a local mother who wished to remain anonymous. “We want to see these boys brought to justice. Birkirkara is a peaceful town, and we won’t stand for this kind of violence.”
Local councillor, Joseph Borg, echoed these sentiments. “We’re working closely with the police to ensure the safety of our community. We’re also providing support to Matthew and his family during this difficult time. We won’t rest until justice is served.”
Support Pouring In for Matthew
Matthew’s story has touched the hearts of many. A GoFundMe page set up to help with his medical expenses has already surpassed its target. The page, titled “Justice for Matthew”, has received donations from both locals and expats living in Malta.
Matthew’s mother, who has been by his side throughout his recovery, expressed her gratitude to the community. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support. It’s given Matthew the strength to keep fighting. We’re grateful to everyone who has shown their support, and we won’t stop fighting for justice.”
