Malta to Host 2026 Junior Eurovision
Malta’s Got the Mic: Junior Eurovision Heads Our Way in 2026
Imagine this: the Mediterranean sun dipping below the ancient walls of Valletta, the capital city’s grand Theatre Malta stage set, and a chorus of young voices echoing through the historic streets. This isn’t a scene from a movie, but a glimpse into what’s in store for Malta in 2026. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has just announced that our tiny island nation will host the 2026 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC).
From Small Stages to the World’s Spotlight
Malta’s no stranger to the Junior Eurovision stage. We’ve been competing since 2003, with our first win in 2015 courtesy of Destiny Chukunyere’s powerful performance of “Not My Soul”. But hosting the event? That’s a whole new ball game. “This is an incredible opportunity for Malta to showcase its unique culture and hospitality to a global audience,” says Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) CEO, Charles Dalli.
JESC isn’t just about the music. It’s a platform for young artists to learn, grow, and represent their countries. In 2026, Malta will welcome around 180 million TV viewers from across Europe and beyond. That’s a lot of eyes on our little island. But we’re ready. After all, we’ve been punching above our weight in the Eurovision scene for years.
Preparing the Stage: What’s Next?
So, what’s next? Well, the countdown to 2026 has officially begun. PBS is already working on logistics, venue preparations, and, of course, the all-important theme and slogan for the event. The Ta’ Qali National Park, with its expansive grounds and central location, is being considered as a potential venue for the EuroClub, the event’s official fan zone.
But hosting JESC isn’t just about the big event. It’s about the legacy we leave behind. The PBS is already discussing ways to involve local schools and communities in the run-up to 2026. Imagine Maltese kids learning about music production, stage design, and event management as part of their school curriculum. That’s the kind of impact we’re talking about.
Malta’s Got Talent:
As we look ahead to 2026, one thing’s for sure: Malta’s got the talent, the heart, and the know-how to host an unforgettable Junior Eurovision. We’ve got our eyes on the prize, and we’re ready to make our mark on the global stage. So, start warming up those vocal cords, Malta. Our moment in the spotlight is coming.
“We’re thrilled to bring Junior Eurovision to Malta,” says EBU’s Head of Live Events, Jon Ola Sand. “Malta has a rich musical heritage and a passion for the contest. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2026.”
