Malta’s PL Offers Car Grants Up to €12,000 for Large Families
Imagine this: a bustling street in Birkirkara, Malta’s most populous town. A mother of five is pushing her youngest in a stroller, her other children trailing behind, laughing and playing. She’s just heard the news – the government is offering car grants for families like hers. Her mind races, thinking of the possibilities. This is the story of how Malta’s Labour Party (PL) is reaching out to large families with a helping hand.
PL’s Car Grant Initiative: A Boon for Large Families
The Malta Labour Party (PL) has announced a new scheme aimed at supporting large families. The initiative, part of the government’s 2022 budget, offers grants of up to €12,000 for families with more than three children. This move is set to provide a significant boost to families who often face financial challenges due to their size.
How Much and Who’s Eligible?
Eligible families can receive grants ranging from €6,000 to €12,000, depending on their income and the number of children. The grant can be used towards the purchase of a new or second-hand car, or even for the conversion of a vehicle to run on LPG or electric power. The scheme is open to families with a gross income of up to €60,000 per annum, with additional allowances for each child.
For instance, a family with four children and an income of €45,000 could receive a grant of €9,000. This would significantly reduce the cost of a new car, making it more affordable for them.
More Than Just a Car Grant
This initiative is not just about providing families with a new set of wheels. It’s about giving them more freedom, more opportunities. A car can open up job prospects, allow children to participate in extracurricular activities, or simply make family outings more feasible. It’s a tangible way the government is supporting the growth and well-being of Maltese families.
PL MP Clifton Grima, who proposed the scheme, explained, “This grant is about giving large families a helping hand. It’s about making life a little easier for them, so they can focus on what really matters – their children.”
: What’s Next?
The scheme is set to come into effect in January 2022, giving families plenty of time to plan and prepare. The government is currently finalising the details, including the application process and the criteria for vehicle eligibility.
For now, families across Malta are buzzing with excitement and anticipation. They’re already dreaming of road trips to Golden Bay, visits to the Three Cities, or simply the convenience of a daily commute. This grant is more than just a financial boost – it’s a promise of a more mobile, more flexible future.
As one mother of four from Żebbuġ put it, “This grant is a lifeline. It’s a chance for us to have a better quality of life, to do more together as a family. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.”
