Msida Metal Bar Attack: Former Roommate’s Violent Assault

Metal Bar Attack: Former Housemate’s Tale of Survival in Msida

In the quiet residential area of Triq San Pawl in Msida, a chilling scene unfolded last week as a man allegedly attacked his former housemate with a metal bar. The victim, 35-year-old Maltese national, Mario, is now recovering in Mater Dei Hospital, his body a map of bruises and stitches.

From Roommates to Rivals

Mario and the accused, 38-year-old Joseph, were once roommates, sharing a flat in Msida for over a year. Neighbors described them as cordial, keeping to themselves, until recently when heated arguments began echoing through their shared walls. The final argument, however, ended in a violent clash that left Mario fighting for his life.

“I heard screaming and banging,” recalls Mrs. Maria, a 65-year-old resident who lives opposite their former flat. “I looked out and saw Mario stumble out, blood all over him. Joseph was standing there, holding a metal bar, shouting something about Mario ‘ruining his life’.”

Attack and Aftermath

Mario managed to stagger to a nearby shop, where the owner, Mr. Tony, rushed to his aid. “He was in a bad way,” Tony recounts. “I called the ambulance and tried to keep him calm. He kept saying, ‘He tried to kill me, Tony. He tried to kill me’.”

Joseph was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody, charged with attempted murder. The metal bar used in the attack was found in their former flat, now a crime scene under investigation.

Community Reacts

News of the attack has through the close-knit Msida community. “This isn’t the Msida we know,” says Mr. Paul, a local shop owner. “We’re a peaceful community. This kind of thing shouldn’t happen here.”

Mario’s family has been by his side since the incident. His sister, Anna, says, “We’re grateful he’s alive. We just want justice and for the community to be safe again.”

As Mario recovers, the Msida community is left grappling with the reality of violence in their midst. The incident serves as a stark reminder that even in the most peaceful of neighborhoods, conflict can escalate quickly and violently.

Mario’s road to recovery is long, but his spirit is unbroken. “I’m alive,” he says, his voice barely above a whisper. “And I’m going to fight to make sure justice is served.”
